Juwara Resources & Trading — Multi-Phase IT Modernisation
How Khalbyte delivered office IT hardware, a corporate website refresh, an HRM system overhaul, and a custom attendance & task management mobile app for one of Malaysia's leading facility management companies.
When a 23-year-old Malaysian facility management company with over 350 staff and 880+ completed projects decides to modernise its IT stack, the engagement is never a one-shot purchase order. For Juwara Resources & Trading (M) Sdn Bhd, the relationship with Khalbyte spanned office hardware refresh, network infrastructure, a corporate website revamp, a legacy HRM system overhaul, and a custom mobile app for field attendance — each phase building on the trust earned in the previous one.
About the client
Juwara Resources & Trading (M) Sdn Bhd is an established Malaysian company specialising in integrated cleaning and facility management solutions. Over 23 years of operation, the company has built a workforce of more than 350 trained staff and completed in excess of 880 projects nationwide across commercial, industrial, and government sectors. Juwara holds ISO 9001:2015 and MS2550:2014 certifications and is recognised under the MyHIJAU initiative — reflecting their commitment to quality, safety, and environmental sustainability in service delivery.
By the time Khalbyte was engaged, Juwara's internal IT had been outgrown by the business. Office machines were ageing. The corporate website looked dated against newer competitors. Field staff were being tracked on paper and spreadsheets. And the back-office HRM system — built years ago on aging PHP frameworks — was throwing payroll errors and breaking modules at random.
The brief
The initial scope was simple: supply ten sets of professional-grade office PCs complete with genuine licensed software, to standardise the head office team on current-generation hardware. But as Khalbyte's team conducted on-site discovery, the underlying problems surfaced — and Juwara's leadership was open to a broader, phased approach rather than a single transactional purchase.
By the end of the discovery, the engagement had grown into a multi-phase IT modernisation programme covering:
- Office PC supply with licensed software
- IT accessories and network infrastructure upgrade
- Corporate website redesign at www.juwara.com.my
- Custom mobile app (CIC Attendance & Task Management) for iOS and Android
- Complete refactor and modernisation of the legacy HRM system
Phase 1 — Office PC supply with genuine licensed software
The visible foundation. Ten sets of professional-grade workstations, configured with Juwara's standard productivity stack and genuine Microsoft Office licensing. For a company that supplies government and industrial sector clients, software licensing compliance is not optional — auditors and procurement officers regularly ask for proof of valid licenses, and an unlicensed instance found during a client audit can disqualify Juwara from major tenders.
Each PC was delivered pre-imaged with the agreed standard build, asset-tagged with Juwara's internal labelling format, and ready to plug into the network on arrival. No on-site configuration scramble, no staff downtime while machines were "set up". Khalbyte handled the asset register handover so Juwara's IT lead had a clean inventory from day one.
Phase 2 — Accessories and network infrastructure
As the new workstations went live, the limitations of the existing office network became obvious. Slow file sharing, inconsistent Wi-Fi in meeting rooms, and a cabling layout from a previous expansion that no longer matched the seating plan. Khalbyte audited the network, replaced ageing switches and access points, re-cabled the affected zones, and installed peripheral accessories — monitors, docking stations, UPS units, and a small server-room tidy-up — that delivered immediate workflow improvements.
This phase is often where engagements stop. The client got the hardware, the network works, and most vendors invoice and leave. For Juwara, it became the gateway to deeper work.
Phase 3 — Corporate website revamp
The juwara.com.my domain had hosted a website that no longer reflected the company's scale. Khalbyte's web team designed and built a refreshed corporate site with a modern, mobile-responsive interface, clear service categorisation, and structured data markup that improved Juwara's visibility on search results. Content migration was handled in-house with Khalbyte assisting on layout, image optimisation, and on-page SEO.
For a B2B service company bidding on tender opportunities, the website is often the first reference a procurement officer checks before shortlisting. The revamp gave Juwara a presentable digital front door that matched the seriousness of their offline operations.
Phase 4 — CIC Attendance & Task Management mobile app
This was the phase that moved Khalbyte's relationship with Juwara from "IT vendor" to "technology partner". With 350+ field staff dispatched daily to client sites across the country, the lack of a centralised attendance and task system was a real operational pain. Paper checklists were getting lost. Supervisors had no real-time view of which technician was at which site. Payroll calculations downstream were error-prone because attendance data trickled in days late.
Khalbyte's development team scoped, designed, and built the CIC Attendance & Task Management application — native iOS and Android — with GPS-stamped clock-in and clock-out, task assignment workflows, photo-evidence capture for completed tasks, and a supervisor dashboard. Field staff could see their daily task list, mark completion in real-time, and submit issue reports directly from the app. Supervisors had live visibility into staff movement and task status without chasing phone calls.
The downstream effect on payroll accuracy was immediate. Attendance records flowed into the HRM system automatically rather than via manual data entry, and timesheet disputes dropped sharply in the months after rollout.
Phase 5 — Legacy HRM system overhaul
The final phase tackled the most painful piece: a homegrown HRM system originally built on PHP Laravel and Yii frameworks, inactive and unmaintained since 2015. Broken payroll modules, outdated security libraries, integration dead-ends with newer systems, and a database schema that had drifted from documentation. The temptation in cases like this is to throw the system away and rebuild from scratch. Khalbyte recommended against that for Juwara — the existing data model and workflows encoded years of operational learning that would be expensive to rediscover.
Instead, Khalbyte took over the codebase, refactored the most fragile modules, modernised the framework dependencies, fixed the payroll calculation bugs, and integrated the system with the new mobile app's attendance feed. Where modules were genuinely unsalvageable, those specific pieces were rewritten in current-generation patterns. The rest was stabilised, secured, and brought up to a maintainable state.
Six months after handover, Juwara's HR team reported that monthly payroll cycles had moved from a fraught, error-prone exercise to a routine process. That is what success looks like for legacy system work — not headlines, just quiet reliability.
Why this engagement matters
The Juwara engagement is the kind of work that demonstrates what an integrated IT partner can do versus a transactional supplier. Each phase made the next phase more likely. Trust earned on the hardware delivery opened the door to the network upgrade. Quality on the network upgrade opened the door to the website project. The website project demonstrated capability across web technologies, which made the mobile app conversation natural. The mobile app's success on field operations made the HRM overhaul possible because Khalbyte was already trusted with payroll-adjacent data.
For Khalbyte, the engagement reinforced a principle that has guided the company's growth: deliver the small thing well, and the bigger conversations follow. For Juwara, the result is an IT stack that finally matches the scale of a 23-year operation with 350 staff and 880+ completed projects.
